Our dentist may recommend a dental crown to strengthen a fragile tooth after a root canal or large filling.
We may also recommend a dental crown if you fractured your tooth from a blow to the face or need to cover an implant.
We understand that restorative dentistry is as much an art as it is a science, which is why we make sure your new tooth crown looks natural.
Porcelain crowns restore the look and function of front teeth so you can smile with confidence. While we typically recommend porcelain crowns to restore the strength of teeth, we can also use them to improve the appearance of your smile. For example, a tooth crown may be appropriate if you need to cover a large stain.
Dental Crown Procedure
Since a dental crown covers the entire visible portion of your tooth above the gum line, some of our patients call it a “tooth cap.” During your appointment with us, our dentist will have to remove enough enamel for the dental crown to fit over your tooth. Our dentist will then take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab.
While you wait for your dental crown to be made, we’ll place a temporary crown over your tooth to protect it in the meantime. When you return for your second appointment with us, your permanent tooth crown will be ready.
Our dentist will make sure that your tooth crown is the appropriate size, shape, and color before replacing it with the temporary crown. We’ll cement your permanent dental crown in place so you can leave our office with your new smile.
